For stations situated between 50 0 N and 60 o N, the main change is observed around 1900 (Fig. 2). Stations situated between 40 0 N and 50 0 N exhibit the main change to a warmer climate later on, around 1925 (Fig. 3). For all these latitudes, we are still experiencing this long-term warm climate now. In fact, this change towards a warming is observed everywhere except in low latitudes where the long-term climate is steady and only short-term fluctuations are present (Fig. 4). Although it is not the purpose of this paper to discuss the cause(s) of the detected warming and of the early 20th century continuity break, the following remarks must be made.
